Winnipeg Extended Family Photos Don't Have to Be a Chore (I Promise!)

"There are SO many of us." Good! More people means more connections and relationships to capture and it also means that you’re walking away with extra special images. On top of big group shots, I work with smaller groupings, candid moments, and I use fun prompts to get you interacting so that a big group actually feels easy. We’ll also prep a list of groupings you’d like before the session so that I can take charge. You show up, I do the herding (gently, I promise)!
"Someone always blinks or makes a weird face." Literally not your problem anymore LOL! I shoot in bursts to make sure we always get a couple of more formal photos where everyone looks nice. Beyond that, I'm watching for real moments of interaction! These are the images that show off the most flattering versions of you and your family.
"My dad/mom HATES having their picture taken." This one's close to my heart. These sessions usually aren't about anyone looking perfect, they’re about your kids having a real photo of what grandma's laugh actually looked like. I keep things low-pressure and fun so that your family walks away feeling like you’ve just had an hour to connect and enjoy each other! Your session won’t feel like an awkward department store pose and smile shoot.
"Do we really need to make a whole thing out of this?" Yes, we really do! Everyone together in the same place at the same time? Everyone (hopefully) healthy and well? That’s rarer than it feels right now, and to be surrounded by your family is a huge blessing. Life gets busier, schedules get harder to line up, and grandma and grandpa are getting older. One day you'll really wish you had these photos. This is a small moment in exchange for something you genuinely cannot get back later.

An extended family session isn't just "getting a photo for Facebook”, it's a time capsule. A game of tag, or a tire swing ride with grandpa (still one of my favourite galleries ever)
“Tell the person next to you your favourite thing about them”
These little prompts do all the work. You get real laughing, real hugging, real "that's so them" personality and within the bigger group session, I always sneak in smaller pairings too: parents and kids, grandparent and grandkid, siblings, and yes, mom and dad get a moment together too!
